Transport

East Sussex is right at the heart of the South East and this ensures easy access to key transport facilities including the Channel Tunnel, Gatwick Airport, London Heathrow, the ports of Newhaven and Dover and the M25 London Orbital motorway.

The relatively small size of the county and its proximity to major outlets and the capital has resulted in it being chosen as the base for a number of logistics-based businesses that rely on the road networks, nearby airports and ports for their distribution.

Road

The M25 is directly accessible and is 45 minutes via the A23/M23 from Newhaven and via the A21 from Hastings. There are direct road links to Brighton, Ashford, the Channel Tunnel, the South East’s ports and the M20. A new Hastings-Bexhill link road will improve local transport even further, opening up development opportunities.

Rail

Excellent access with frequent direct trains from 37 stations to main London stations (Victoria, Charing Cross, London Bridge and Cannon Street), Gatwick, Brighton and Ashford International. Eurostar trains to Paris, Brussels or Lille via Ashford International.

Air

Gatwick Airport is on a direct rail line to Lewes, Newhaven, Eastbourne and Hastings. By road, the airport is just 41 miles from Newhaven and 62 miles from Hastings.

Sea

Newhaven is the closest port to London with twice daily ferry links to Dieppe, France.
