International sales leads to Queen’s Award for Source BMX

Monday 23rd April 2018

Rich and Marc Moore, the brothers behind The Source BMX, have been awarded The Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2018, recognising their soaring international sales

The Hastings-based pair turned their lifelong passion for BMX into a thriving online and retail business and major international event venue. Rich and Marc received the Award in the international trade category for transforming their bedroom-based business into the world's largest BMX retailer, which now exports daily to 80 countries worldwide.

Launched in 2003, Source BMX employs some 40 people and boasts sales of over £1m each year. As well as building a hugely successful BMX business, Rich and Marc have opened Source Park, the world’s largest underground BMX track and skatepark. Built on the site of a former Turkish baths on the seafront in Hastings, Source Park includes a busy retail store and is host to ‘The Battle of Hastings’ one of the world’s biggest and most prestigious international BMX events. The growing international reputation of Source Park drives global awareness and traffic to The Source website, which now makes up over 90% of company turnover.

Rich Moore commented: “It is a huge honour to receive this award. It is the most prestigious business award in the country and very gratifying to be recognised by the Queen.  It is a great reflection of all of the hard work from our team in growing the business over the past 15 years and we intend to go from strength to strength.”

Marc Moore added: “All our staff should be really proud of this award. It amazes us every day what a small team working in the same direction can achieve.”

Philip Johnson of Locate East Sussex, which assisted The Source to access funding for its growth and development through East Sussex County Council, commented “The Source is a great example of the new generation of companies thriving in East Sussex. They are disruptive, innovative and export around the world and are contributing significantly to the current buzz around Hastings and East Sussex.”

The Source was recently subject of a film, The Source Park Documentary, that was released on Amazon Prime and Vimeo on Demand in January 2018.

Source BMX has just announced that it has secured funding for its international expansion and growing its market reach.
