A wide range of education opportunities and training programmes are available for young people and professionals across East Sussex.


East Sussex benefits from a wide selection of top range education opportunities and research facilities.

Two of the UK’s highest achieving, best ranked universities are based in East Sussex; the University of Brighton and the University of Sussex both offer excellent teaching and research facilities. Both universities work in close partnership with local businesses and collaborate on research programmes, as well as work with employers to help prepare students for future careers and secure employment in the local area.

There are numerous colleges throughout East Sussex all of which have programmes focused on collaborations with local companies. Sussex Coast College in Hastings, Sussex Downs College (Lewes, Newhaven, Eastbourne) and Bexhill College are all examples of colleges offering superb teaching and courses covering a broad curriculum.

Plumpton College, a centre of excellence, offers specialist education in agricultural issues and covers all land-based provision. The 900 hectare estate provides outstanding practical facilities for students. Plumpton College offers a wide range of courses including Agriculture, Horticulture, Floristry, Metalsmithing, Animal care and Veterinary Nursing to all levels ranging from school 14–16 programmes, diploma courses, foundation degrees, and apprentices.


There are strong links between education and adult training courses in East Sussex and numerous options for pursuing apprenticeships, vocational courses and diplomas at facilities all over East Sussex.

Apprenticeships provide an ideal opportunity to develop your workforce or employ new recruits and train them to your specific needs, in a cost effective way.
